Small Bites

That's what it says on a white SMART car''s license that zips around town:  BITESZ.  First time I saw it, it made me chortle with glee.  Now, it just makes me smile.

Found a new blog to read and subscribed; it's smart and thoughtful.  Got an email back asking if I was real.  He got the wiseacre reply. A gal's gotta go for the laughs now and then.

I've been in a generally happy mood lately.  Yah, I know everything is going to hell in a hand basket around us lately and I sure don't have any control over that.  But I got two little old ladies with dementia who I get to take care of during the week who I like.  The pay is tolerable and because of it,  I've managed to pay down a few debts to where they're almost 'bite sized' and I'm not so direly stressed from worry.  I did ask the gods for this -- just plain, simple honest work that gives their families a bit of respite time so they can recharge and take care of their own needs.  Service work.  Nothing fancy.  But a whole lot more real than some of the %($!#  ya see goin' on out in the business/media/politics dominated workaday world these days.

I went to another Coffee Party meeting Saturday.  Interesting group.  There must be some vestige of optimism in me that maybe we Americans of myriad stripes can actually have a civil conversation and maybe even work toward common goals even if we don't always totally agree on everything.  This country could stand people wanting to get some win-win action going for it.  The old system isn't working so good.  I was so right to worry about times like these the way I did back during the first Reagan term.

Getting out of Dodge Thursday with hubby and the dog to go camping in the Jemez with friends.  Maybe we'll do a small, slightly belated Solstice celebration as well.  That'll rock!  I have only been going to the Jemez since I was a tender 16 months old... so for about 54 of my 55 years.

This concerns us all and is a major wake up call!  Our legislators need to make sure there is a foolproof, no loopholes law DENYING corporations 'personhood' in this country!  

Just Disgusting

Yesterday evening I was shopping at Walgreens tor a few items when I found several packages from which the contents had been stolen.  The boxes had been pushed behind other products, so I fished them out and took a picture.  I also notified one of the managers.  He was pretty disgusted.  I was just angry because of how much theft costs us individually as well as corporately.  This was not just petty shoplifting where one item was taken.  It looked like this was one of those things where the shoplifters had a list and a plan.  And it's all just ugly:

Busy Sunday

What a busy day! Woke up earlier than I thought. Puttered around the house and had breakfast, played a few games and read my Sunday political news rations.   Did 4 loads of laundry with the requisite drying, hanging and folding as I went.  Started getting stuff ready for Beltane --I'm halfway packed already and it's not even Wednesday deadline.  Cleaned out and reorganized my most cluttered dresser drawer- got my gloves & mittens organized, scarves and belts sorted out (threw out a bunch of outdated belts and two very dead handbags), sorted and folded shawls and put them in a mothproof bag with cedar chips and moth balls. Went to the dog park for an hour, then dropped by the Earth Day fair at Nob Hill for @ half an hour.  Saw Ye Olde Kitchen Witch and bought her marvelous foot cream which I really, really wanted today.  Didn't stay as long as I wanted because Raven was *not* a happy dog in the crowd, but YOKW and her hubby did watch Raven for a few minutes while I took a quick stroll around anyway.  After that, back home, made dinner and threw one more load of laundry in the wash.  Guess I will have to work tomorrow so I can kick back and relax for a few hours.  LOL.

Joining the Coffee Party For Sure

I'm an American woman. I'm 55 years old. I love America. I love my country, my homeland -- even during those times when I've been embarrassed by it, which fortunately has been only twice in my lifetime. I'm moderate in most things, liberal in several and conservative in yet other things. I am an honorably discharged Viet Nam era veteran. I served in the US Air Force from 1974 to 1979 and was relatively average as enlistees go. I've been married for 25 years and worked in a variety of fields. And I'm still fairly average. I have served my country publicly and privately throughout my life and I believe in that service as a moral duty. And the Coffee Party speaks for me in fundamental ways the Tea Party doesn't. I want public dialog. I don't want to be shouted down and prevented from participating in my own government process. I don't shout other people down because I believe in hearing people out in a courteous manner. I don't have all the answers. The nice thing about the Coffee Party is that there's room for many voices from many different places. I want to work together for the common good. I don't want disunity.

If Democracy Really Matters This News Should Matter To You Very Much

This is one thing I agree with McCain on in whole, spirit and principle.  This supreme court ruling is a colossal blunder and no corporation should have the rights of a private, individual citizen.  I'm not willing to become a second class citizen.

Keith has a nifty point or two on this youtube video regarding your cruel, hideous remarks about the tragedy in Haiti. You're inexcusable, Pat Robertson. Simply inexcusable.

New Years Laws & Stuff

The AP posted an article about new laws slated to take effect around the country as the new year kicks in.  One lady's comment made me think she's just very rich or very stupid.


The article said:  "America's roads should be safer in 2010, as bans on texting while driving go into effect in New Hampshire, Oregon and Illinois. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, that will make 19 states that have outlawed the practice, not including six states that prohibit using hand-held cell phones while behind the wheel.

"This legislation is important and will make our roads safer. No driver has any business text messaging while they are driving," said Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, whose office regulates drivers.

Tina Derby, 42, of Warner, N.H., said she has no intention to stop texting while driving, despite the possible $100 fine she could receive.

"I'd better start saving my money," Derby said."

I'm thinking she is deluding herself.  With that statement as a matter of public record, she is stating that she is willing to disregard public safety for her own pleasure.  That would become criminal in the event she is ever in an accident while texting.  She's stated her intent.  If there is a loss of life or limb to someone else as a result of an accident she is involved in while behind the wheel, I would think that an argument for depraved mind enhancement could legitimately be made.  Stupid people.
