How Christian Fundamentalism Helped Empower the Top 1% to Exploit the 99% | Occupy Wall Street | AlterNet

It seems that I'm tending to aggregate news these days. This is a great story about the intrusion of religious fundamentalism in the body politic and how it has become entrenched. I think it's worth the time to read and I hope you will print it out and share it with your friends.

There is so much going on in the world that just following it and making sense of it is almost a full time job and I haven't gotten in a lick of writing on account of it all. Mass murder. Seriously questionable application of the death penalty. Flavor of the Week Republican candidates. News of the World/Murdoch stuff still falling out. Popular dissent with the 99% and Occupy Wall Street (#OWS). . Kansas towns crying poor and to save a few bucks, putting women and families lives on the line by decriminalizing domestic violence. Cops telling women not to wear short skirts or they'll get raped. As my mother used to say, "Ai, yi yi!" Its freakin' overwhelming. And that doesn't count the personal stuff ... Volunteering in our local Organizing For America office, participating in our town's #Occupy protests, keeping up with friends and family and so on.

Anyway. Also I'm gonna ask you to make sure your voter registration is up-to-date. If you've moved, even it is two blocks away, check to make sure you're registered in the correct precincts. Don't wait to the last minute.

I"ve Heard Enough

When people cheer and shout "Yeah!" when a hypothetical question is asked of a so-called political leader about letting a young, healthy man without insurance, who has had a serious accident die, then I think I have heard enough.

I am not a perfect human being; I have flaws of character I strive everyday to overcome.  But when it comes to men and women cheering for the idea of allowing a human being to die because he or she has no money to afford their medical treatment, I think I have heard quite enough.

With every fiber in my being, I will resist that cruel calculus that holds another person's life so cheaply.

The Nosy Tomato

Plucked this guy the other day.  So cute with that jaunty little cap of green at the top.  So tasty after a rinse and joined with the other ingredients for a caprese style salad.

I Know Exactly

I know exactly where I was 10 years ago tomorrow.   I have been in mourning for our nation ever since.
